The Scarlet and Great Advantages of Scarlet & Grants
While federal grants (NSF, NIH) are the bedrock of many labs, private foundations and corporations offer unique flexibility for innovative projects, community outreach, interdisciplinary research, and translational impact. Scarlet & Grants was built to bridge the gap between private funders and Buckeye researchers across all academic units and centers.
Gabby Owen, a long-time user of Scarlet and Grants and the Director of Development for the College of Nursing, stated “As a development officer, Scarlet & Grants allows me to clearly see the breadth of funding opportunities that may align with my college. Because the nursing profession spans healthcare, public health, and social services, the portal helps us identify opportunities that may not be immediately obvious within a traditional nursing lens. It has also fostered stronger collaboration and more strategic alignment with our Office of Research.”
While many universities pay for third-party services for faculty and staff to find funding opportunities, Ohio State is leading the charge by using a database that is built by Buckeyes, for Buckeyes – allowing faculty to spend more time on transformational research and less on grant seeking.
